Botox Cosmetic (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is approved by the FDA for treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in people ages 18-65, and it can also treat forehead lines, laugh lines, and crow’s feet. Botox injections force facial muscles to relax, and the skin above develops a smoother appearance. Most patients begin to see results in about 3 days after each treatment, and maximum results in about two weeks. The effects of Botox injections typically last for approximately 3-4 months after each treatment.
Dysport works in a similar fashion to Botox, with a few subtle differences. It has a lower protein load, and clinical research suggests that this can lead to longer results because patients potentially form less antibodies to resist the treatment. Dysport is more diluted than Botox, which leads to lower costs per treatment, and its lower density allows it to spread more, often leading to a prolonged period of effectiveness.
